Max's Buddy Bench

Max attended the Roberts Elementary School Pre-K for two years. He went on to a new school for kindergarten, but we stayed close with our friends at Roberts. We were so touched to learn they built a bench for him on the playground, his favorite spot at school. The bench has beautiful flower boxes, a personalized plaque and, of course, an umbrella, because Max always loved shade on hot days.

Max’s Buddy Bench, as they named it, will provide an opportunity to bring kids together. It’s meant to be a meeting place for students who need a buddy to play with on the playground. Students who need a friend can sit on the bench, signaling to their peers that they’d like someone to play with. Max loved people and he loved to tell people to sit with him. The school took the time to tailor this bench to Max’s personality and it’s perfect.

The bench dedication ceremony on September 21st was very personal. His first year teacher Lindsay (known as Linley) spoke, as did Heather (Henna), his second year teacher, and Principal Jones (Jones). They are three of the many we love so dearly at Roberts. This special space they created means so much to our family and we’re grateful for the open invitation to visit whenever we want.
